are there words at the end of the world as we know it (do you feel fine?)

okey, folks. today we're taking a step (or two) back to the olden days. back to the days when R.E.M. governed the radios...with "it's the end of the world as we know it (and i feel fine)" and others.

It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine):

"That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane
-Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn -world serves its own needs, regardless of your own needs.
Feed it up a knock, speed, grunt no, strength no.
Ladder structure clatter with fear of height, down height.
Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government forhire and a combat site.
Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furiesbreathing down your neck.
Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tetheredcrop.
Look at that low plane!
Fine then.
Uh oh, overflow, population, common group, but it'll do.
Save yourself, serve yourself.
World serves itsown needs, listen to your heart bleed.
Tell me with the rapture and thereverent in the right - right.
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, brightlight, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour.
Don't get caught in foreign tower.
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn.
Lock him in uniform and book burning, blood letting.
Every motive escalate.
Automotive incinerate.
Light a candle,light a motive.
Step down, step down.
Watch a heel crush, crush.
Uh oh,this means no fear - cavalier.
Renegade and steer clear!
A tournament,a tournament, a tournament of lies.
Offer me solutions, offer me alternativesand I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide.
Mount St. Edelite.Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom!
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam, but neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine...fine...

(It's time I had some time alone)"

i, personally, love how he says "it's the end of the wrrld as we knowit! (and im feelin' fine)"

Now, this is a little briefed history on the band: (ha! briefed!!)

"R.E.M. is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by Michael Stipe (lead vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass guitar), and Bill Berry (drums and percussion). R.E.M. was one of the first popular alternative rock bands, and gained early attention due to Buck's ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Stipe's unclear vocals. R.E.M. released its first single, "Radio Free Europe", in 1981 on the independent record label Hib-Tone. The single was followed by the Chronic Town EP in 1982, the band's first release on I.R.S. Records. In 1983, the band released its critically acclaimed debut album Murmur, and built its reputation over the next few years through subsequent releases, constant touring, and the support of college radio. Following years of underground success, R.E.M. achieved a mainstream hit in 1987 with the single "The One I Love". The group signed to Warner Bros. Records in 1988, and began to espouse political and environmental concerns while playing large arenas worldwide.
By the early 1990s, when alternative rock began to experience broad mainstream success, R.E.M. was viewed as a pioneer of the genre and released its two most commercially successful albums, Out of Time (1991) and Automatic for the People (1992), which veered from the band's established sound. R.E.M.'s 1994 release Monster was a return to a more rock-oriented sound. The band began its first tour in six years to support the album; the tour was marred by medical emergencies suffered by three band members. In 1996, R.E.M. re-signed with Warner Bros. for a reported US$80 million, at the time the most expensive recording contract in history. The following year, Bill Berry left the band amicably, with Buck, Mills, and Stipe continuing as a three-piece. Through some changes in musical style, the band continued its career into the next decade with mixed critical and commercial success. In 2007, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

you have to admit, rock and roll hall of fame is a prrdy big deal.

whispers from the greatest of us (and those not so whispered)

It is dangerous for a national candidate to say things that people might remember.

With a stop light, green means 'go' and yellow means 'slow down'. With a banana, however, it is quite the opposite. Yellow means 'go', green means 'whoa, slow down', and red means 'where the heck did you get that banana?'

Ask a deeply religious Christian if he’d rather live next to a bearded Muslim that may or may not be plotting a terror attack, or an atheist that may or may not show him how to set up a wireless network in his house. On the scale of prejudice, atheists don’t seem so bad lately.

"write a book about it." about what?
what you love.

another word? magic.

third today -- i'm on a roll. no. actually i'm just bored to death. (almost related question-- what happens when you get scared half to death twice?)
twice? i don't know, you'd probably die, i guess.

and today my sister asked me if i believed in magic. do i? well...you know what i said? do you know? i said, "well of course not. there is as much magic in the world as there is a man in the sky, watching you, you and everything all of the people you love, and the people you hate, do."

"but it would be so lovely," i said to myself (i whispered to myself), "it would be so lovely if there was magic. it would be so lovely if someone, or something, up there heard all of my words and didn't hate me for them. it would be so lovely and perfect."
i'm sorry. i forgot about the songs!!

  1. This War Is Ours (The Guillotine Pt. 2) -- Escape The Fate

  2. Dropped -- Phantom Planet

  3. Lady Madeline In Her Coffin -- I Am Ghost

tell me that 'cha want me, tell me that 'cha need me -- tell me cuz i'd like ta know! yes i will see you, through the smoke and flames! on the front lines of war...(we have to find a better way!) and i will stand by, right until the end, till we conquer them all!!! i don't know what you're saying...so speak differently or pretend everything's okay (nothing's okay...) i used to know you...i used to know life (but it changed)

the picture up there? that's a bass guitar, if you're not farmiliar with things like that. it's the instroment i'd like to play someday.

the words of phantom planet

and, cuz they've become my most recent love, i have to put photos. (just have to, information about bands is an obsession with me.)

FUN FACT!!:

the band is named after the theme song of a 1961 B-movie called The Phantom Planet . they decided on the name in 1994 in a pizza hut (which i find hysterical.) and...this is a really cool fact about their developing logo thing (above left):

"...bassist Sam Farrar described the new logo, which is a circular graphic of piano keys that seem to morph into a shirt sleeve with a hand emerging from the cuff. he said, "the idea is that we’re going to sell a lot of these sweatshirts and all the kids will show up in them so the entire audience looks just like us." alex followed this up by saying that "'the leader' is the hand. he is the hand that plays the notes we sing to. it’s in the beginning stages still; we’re just chipping away at the stone." the new song "leader", is about Alex's fictional or metaphorical experience with a cult."

and, lastly, the lead singer is a veggitarian. just thought i'd add that, you know. you gotta love those veggies. =)
this is a rly hysterical video. its the music video to "dropped".

the first words (phantom)

first words are always short, so i suppose i'll make this short, too. i should first mention that i won't use capitals very much, unless i feel it is important (i don't really know why, just suck it up) and...i'll list my top 3-5 favorite songs for the day, just for entertainment.

  1. Path - Apocalypta (DID I SPELL THAT RIGHT??)

  2. Do The Panic - Phantom Planet

  3. Conspiracy - Paramore

i love the word phantom. it feels different on my lips, like it's almost not there (kind of like the meaning...?) yeah. phantom.

phantom.

aand here is the lyrics to Phantom Planet's Demon Daughters -- (important, see?? that's why it's capitalized.)

Here come the swooping hawks

Down blocks we've all forgotten

Clutching old friends in their talons

Down from the sky to the way back

Of his mind

To pick it clean, to leave nothing behind

They go from high school to high class

To higher than highnesses

They're casting spells, can't you tell?

We're helpless, hard to recover

For the dusty antique lover

But for one thing

There is always another

Demon daughters

They're all partners

Heads together

Summon their fathers

And all hell's fury

Judge and jury

You better hurry

Get him off his back

All the red, red eyes are up in the sky

And the figures they belong to are preparing to dive

Yeah they were fast as the speed of light

Whistling by me and they took him down

It was ever so gently

Demon daughters

So hot and bothered

Burning irons

Don't get much hotter

It boils up his head

All over his bed

You better hurry

Get him off his back

I found him under

A mountain of blankets

And he was shaking

It's what they fostered

A child, a monster

His head looked crooked

Then shook and shattered

You bastards

You hatched her (x2)

So they have finally broken

That pumping organ

Playing old numbers

On it again

Something dark and true

We all can sing to

I know the chorus now

My brain's turned black

Demon daughters (x5)

phantom. i really like this sentence:

"drive from your heart the phantom of fear"
